What Are the Facts about
Daily Vitamin Supplements?

Do you ever wonder if you should be taking daily vitamin supplements?

My opinion is that if we all ate perfectly—organic fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, sprouts—and lived in a pollution-free environment with abundant clean water to drink and healthy, clear sunshine to warm us, we probably wouldn’t need anything extra in the way of food supplements.

Pollution and Stress

However, our lives are filled with toxins from the food we eat (pesticides, herbicides, trans fats , excitotoxins , refined sugars and flours, and chemicals of questionable value except to the food manufacturers) to the air we breathe and the water we drink.

In addition, modern life is filled with stress and tension, from heavy traffic as we travel to stressful jobs, worry about escalating gas and food prices, even to concern about our personal safety in a sometimes violent world.

Whew, I don’t mean to be negative, but it gets to be too much sometimes, doesn’t it?

So, perhaps the healthy food that you try to eat just isn’t enough to make up for the nutrient demands placed on your body by poor nutrition, environmental toxins, and stress. It might be wise to consider taking daily vitamin supplements.

Is it Good?

How does a person know what’s a good supplement? If you’re reading this, you obviously get your education from someplace other than the TV commercials. Good for you.

Probably the most important question in my mind is: What is the source of the vitamins? Are they synthetic, originating in a lab? Or do they come from whole, natural foods?

If I’m going to take daily vitamin supplements, I’ll look for something that is as close to nature as possible. Not something created in a laboratory.

Another important thing is that the vitamins can actually be absorbed through the intestines. Toxic products may block the entryway so the nutrients can’t be absorbed. Sometimes vitamin companies just increase the ingredients, hoping that at least some of the substance will be absorbed.

There is a way to help the nutrients cross the cell wall membrane directly and to actually help heal and restore function to intestinal walls that might be inflamed and cause blockages to vitamin absorption. Cleansing is important, as well as adding essential oils to daily multivitamin supplements. The amount of vitamins in the product can actually be lower than other brands because it’s more effective in doing its job.

It’s important to read the vitamin labels. Look for products that say they come from only food sources. Otherwise, they’re made in a lab.

Food supplements should ideally be derived from natural food sources that are grown in enriched, toxin-free soils. They may even include essential oils to ensure the transport of the vitamins across the cell membrane, as well as to heal and nourish.

Make sure you and your family are as healthy as you can be: Eat as well as you can, get some exercise, take part in stress-reducing activities, and perhaps consider taking natural, whole food-derived daily vitamin supplements.
