Is There a Connection Between Diet and Cancer And Other Diseases?
Are diet and cancer related? If you listen to the mainstream media, you would not think there was much of a connection.

Click here for an update to this Diet and Cancer page.Sure, some people might think that consuming pesticides along with nonorganic produce could be a contributing factor to disease. Once in a while you hear a story about how eating meats that have certain preservatives in them could contribute to cancer. And then you watch people on TV who are sick and someone says they are waiting for a cure for that that specific disease, which is usually cancer, since it’s so prevalent in modern society. Lately, it’s unfortunately been Patrick Swayze who has been in the news, battling pancreatic cancer. When Will They Find a Cure for Cancer?Once again, I heard the predictable comments from the news people: When are they going to find a cure for cancer? This is so upsetting to me. Why? Because of all the wasted resources of money and talented scientists and doctors who spend their lives looking for a cure for cancer, when it already exists. And it’s not just cancer… it’s all degenerative diseases. Heartbreaking, Unnecessary SufferingIt’s heartbreaking to be aware of all of the unnecessary suffering that occurs while people wait for a magic pill to cure their disease… when we have the answer, and there’s nothing magic or mysterious about it. In fact, it’s very simple. That’s probably a big reason why the doctors aren’t teaching people about this. I should qualify that statement, because there are a very few enlightened physicians who are aware of this. But the powerful pharmaceutical industry dictates what the only treatments are, and if doctors started teaching simple, inexpensive methods, then they would go out of business. Perhaps. Part of the problem is that there are many people who find it very hard to change their lifestyle or take responsibility for their health, choosing instead to turn it over to the doctors and Big Medicine and Big Pharma. Education from TVPardon my cynicism. But it’s just so obvious. People allow themselves to be brainwashed and remain ignorant. The vast majority of the public gets its education from TV. And what is TV saturated with? Commercials for drugs and news channels which get their funding from drug companies. It’s no wonder we get biased, limited-information reports. This is especially close to my heart at the moment because my brother died last month from cancer, and he was just in his 50s. Over the course of his illness I tried gently to suggest some moderate, simple diet changes, but he wouldn’t hear any of it. If his doctor didn’t tell him to do it, he didn’t want to hear about anything else, particularly the connection between diet and cancer and healing. So, I supported him in his decision and sadly watched him suffer. Enlightened DoctorsThere are courageous, enlightened doctors and scientists out there—probably some who choose to keep a low profile to avoid trouble with the government—who try to educate people about how a healthy plant-based diet can restore them to health. A few who come to mind are John McDougall, MD, Joel Fuhrman, MD, and T. Colin Campbell, PhD. The websites of organizations like Hallelujah Acres are filled with amazing testimonials of people who have discovered the connection between diet and cancer (and other diseases) and have become well by following a simple, plant-based diet. And yet, people will ask, “If this is true, why don’t the doctors tell us about it?” That strikes me as naïve, because many scientists won’t pay attention to anecdotal stories about diet and cancer; they want laboratory studies before they’ll listen. Even when there are studies, another one soon comes out to contradict the original one Guess what? The studies are funded by the pharmaceutical companies. How could anyone believe that they are unbiased in their research and the results that get released to the media? No Magic PillI don’t believe a magic pill will be found for cancer. However, the answer already exists. Stop eating the dangerous, disease-causing Western diet, and adopt a plant-based, whole-foods diet. You will protect yourself from the awful degenerative diseases of the industrialized countries, like arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. You can often reverse these diseases. If you have a serious condition, work with an enlightened healthcare practitioner who can guide you with your diet and lifestyle. There IS a connection between diet and cancer. Have hope! There is a way to healing. Update... on Living with Cancer

This morning I saw a special report on one of the early morning news shows about a cancer researcher who is researching older Rottweiler dogs to see if he can learn something about cancer that would help humans. One thing he learned is that the dogs sometimes have cancer that nobody has discovered or treated, and they live to be old dogs (for instance, 13 years old which they said was equivalent to 100 in people years) without any noticeable problems. This was an ah-hah! moment for me, when I metaphorically smacked myself on the forehead and thought, yes, this makes big sense. First of all, a disclaimer: I'm sure there are some very aggressive cancers that suddenly appear and cause pain and suffering. But I have a feeling the vast majority are just there, hanging out, growing slowly if at all... and the trouble starts when it's discovered and the horrible, poisonous treatments begin. It's the beginning of the end. Another thing that you don't hear much about (perhaps because it's not the type of news story that will make money for the major advertisers on TV and everywhere--the pharmaceutical companies) is something I heard about not long ago... that people sometimes get cancer throughout their lifetimes and it just goes away! It makes me think that a strong immune system could be behind this. It's another good reason to eat well (the diet and cancer connection?) and live a healthy lifestyle, getting sunshine, moderate exercise, ample rest (dogs are good at that!), and enjoying loving relationships (I bet those dogs have human companions that dote on them). What do you think about all of this?
