Eating Naturally Is All About Whole Foods
Eating naturally may sounds like an obvious concept to many… as in, eating comes naturally. But there is much more to it, especially in these modern times.
It was Easier in the Old DaysA hundred years ago, eating naturally was easier than it is today. Back then, people didn’t have access to all of the processed food products that are filling the supermarkets of today, many of which are loaded with strange-sounding and unhealthful chemicals that are there to enrich the food manufacturers, not to add anything beneficial to the health and welfare of the consumers. Just the opposite, in fact. Today... The consumer spends more money to buy an inferior product that has had much of the good nutrition processed out of it, plus has added chemicals for various reasons—to enhance the flavor of the devitalized product, to add back in some synthetic chemicals, or to add preservatives to make sure the product can last on the shelf a long time. Ugh. It doesn’t sound very appetizing when you really think about it. That’s part of the problem: People don’t think about it. They get mesmerized by the commercials on TV showing all of the beautiful people eating the junky processed foods, and it makes them hungry. They believe—and I’ve actually heard intelligent people say this—that if that food product was really bad, the government wouldn’t let it be sold. Talk about naive. Or maybe it's just being in denial. Here’s the Solution…
Eating naturally is a simple as buying whole foods. Period. Instead of buying a soup mix or can of soup, buy some lentils, potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, garlic, tomatoes , and herbs (bay leaves, thyme). Chop things up, put them in a pan with water, and simmer until everything is done. Add sea salt and pepper to taste. You’ll have a delicious, filling, nutritious soup. Make more than you need and freeze the rest. There’s nothing like homemade soup.Sure, it takes a little bit more time to prepare your own meals, but the payback is tremendous: - You’ll be healthier.
- You’ll save money.
- The food you eat tastes better.
If you’re not used to preparing food for yourself, buy a simple whole foods cookbook and try a few recipes. You might enjoy the process, and you’ll certainly enjoy the taste of the food, the money you save, and your improved health. Here are a few suggestions: |
