Who Does the Food Shopping in Your Family?

Rave Diet Logo

I have a food shopping rant/editorial to make today.

I just heard a story on Good Morning America about high-sugar breakfast cereals… about how children see 600-plus commercials aimed at them before they enter kindergarten. (Is that all?)

The reporter said the cereal manufacturers were going to police themselves—(isn’t that a bit like the fox guarding the hen house?)—and yet, the cereals are still loaded with sugar.

Big surprise.

I heard one of the cereal industry’s spokeswomen speaking, and she said the cereals are loaded with vitamins and are good for children. Yikes, how can she live with herself?

Food manufacturers strip the whole foods of the healthy nutrients, add back in a few token vitamins, and then pat themselves on the back.

But the big thing that struck me this morning was when the reporter spoke about how these sugar-laden products are “marketed to children.”

Wait a minute! Do the children do the food shopping in the household??? Are they really in charge of grocery shopping?

Can the parents not say NO when their child begs for one of those awful cereal products? It could be that the parents are as ignorant as their children when it comes to nutrition.

Sadly, there are many parents who get all of their “education” from TV. They don’t perform their own research and study, which would lead to making healthy choices. They believe everything the commercials tell them.

Since we know the cereal manufacturers won’t “police” themselves, perhaps they must be regulated. Otherwise, they will keep feeding the uneducated adults and children lies about the nutritional status of their products. And the TV networks will continue to air these ads and collect money for doing so.

Disease Proof Your Children
The ideal thing would be if people would simply do a little bit of thinking for themselves… and stop believing everything they hear on TV. And that includes the so-called news… which often has food manufacturers as sponsors, although lately it’s more likely to be the pharmaceutical companies. Hmmmmmm… I wonder if that could have anything to do with the constant reports on the flu and vaccines and other drugs that will cure all of our ailments without our having to take responsibility for our own health and decisions.

Think for yourself!
