Healthy Eating Tips For a
Strong Immune System

Practice these healthy eating tips to strengthen your immune system and stay well and happy.

It’s fall as I write this, and television is bombarding us with ads about flu shots and flu medications for the upcoming flu season. I think it’s a brainwashing tactic. They want us to believe that we’ll get the flu if we don’t get the shots. And then, when the shots are ineffective (as studies show they frequently are), there are loads of over-the-counter and prescription drugs to take… for aches and pains and sniffles and sneezes and coughs. You name it, they’ve got it.

There’s an alternative approach to all of that…

First of all, don’t fall victim to their brainwashing and scare tactics. Don’t accept it as a foregone conclusion that you’ll get the flu. That’s the first thing.

The next thing is that there are things you can do to keep yourself well, beginning with following some simple healthy eating tips to enhance your immune system. Your immune system is your body’s wonderful first line of defense against foreign invaders, including viruses and bacteria. Carrot Juice A good start would be a juice fast. This will help rid your body of immune system-weakening toxins. If you don’t feel up to a juice fast, consider fasting from foods you know aren’t good for you: coffee, alcohol, white flour, sugar, sodas, animal products. Simply stopping your consumption of those things will do wonders towards eliminating toxins from your body.

Begin eating plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits (frequently raw), plus beans, nuts, seeds and grains. These foods are high in fiber and will help with the cleansing process. In addition, they are wonderful sources of all of the nutrients you need to stay healthy.

Fresh fruits and vegetables contain excellent amounts of vitamin C and vitamin A, which are very important for the body’s defense system in fighting off bacteria and viruses.

Zinc is a mineral which promotes a healthy immune response and is reported to be effective in relieving cold symptoms. It’s found in brewer’s yeast, dulse, lima beans, mushrooms, pecans, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and whole grains.

Try to consume green drinks daily. You could make a green smoothie or take one of the green food powders like BarleyMax. The chlorophyll in green foods cleanses the blood and is important in the immune response.

Other Immune System Enhancers

Besides a poor diet, especially one that's high in fat and processed foods, stress is the other main immune suppressor. Make an effort to include some stress-reducing activities in your life, like yoga, meditation, or walks in nature. Walking and other forms of moderate exercise are important, too. And get adequate sleep.

Don’t believe the TV ads. There are plenty of simple things you can do to safeguard your health without taking drugs (which are another way to weaken your immune system, by the way) and shots. It's easy to get started following at least some of these healthy eating tips right now; you'll be happy you did.
