Healthy Raw Foods, Day 12
Eating all healthy raw foods continues on day 12 of my 30-day challenge. This page is an update of what I ate and how I felt today. My weight is still 120.2 pounds. As I do every morning, I had 1 teaspoon of BarleyMax in water. Breakfast was 1/2 cantaloupe, with a banana as a midmorning snack.
Joy
10:15 AM: I’m in the midst of one of those delightful joyous feelings that seem to come out of nowhere. I feel light and happy and grateful that I can spend my day working at something I love—working on my website, writing about healthy raw foods—not stuck in some grim office doing monotonous drudge work. That may not be everyone’s experience with office work, but it’s been my experience all too often. Anyhow, I want to focus on the good feelings now.For lunch I ate leftover raw spaghetti (see the recipe on this page by clicking here), with “parmesan cheese.” This is the recipe for the faux parmesan cheese: Grind 1/4 cup walnuts, add 1/4 cup nutritional yeast and a pinch of sea salt. Put it all in a small jar and shake it up to mix well. I think pine nuts would work better because of the lighter color, and I’ll try that next time. But the walnut version is very tasty.
First Restaurant on the Challenge
Dinner: I’ve been a tad concerned about eating in a restaurant while eating all raw. Would I weaken when I saw and smelled the other dishes? Should I have a glass of wine? (Even though wine is raw, I’ve been feeling good—clearer—not having it with my dinners the last couple of weeks.)Fortunately, the city I live in has a good selection of
vegetarian
restaurants. Even many of the nonveg restaurants usually have a couple of good vegan selections. We opted for an all-vegetarian restaurant that has plenty of
vegan
options. It turned out wine didn’t appeal to me, so I had a glass of freshly made carrot juice with ginger. My entrée was a decent raw plate consisting of a BIG salad with lots of different veggies surrounding a large mound of a spread/dip made of cashews, beets and carrots. It was seasoned nicely and quite delicious. The best part was just getting out, spending time in conversation and laughter with my friend, and letting someone else do the food preparation.
Comments about a Little Pain
I’ve felt good all day except for a little pain that started during the afternoon in my right abdomen. It comes and goes. I’ll watch and wait and see how it feels tomorrow. Maybe I need a colonic. :-) Being on a healthy raw foods program for any length of time brings up odd little symptoms as we move through the
detoxification
process that is a natural and inevitable part of the program. Even though I don’t enjoy the uncomfortable feelings that arise, a part of me rejoices because I know something is being cleared up and out, healed, and rejuvenated. Some people rush to doctors at the first twinge of pain or sneeze... so they can get a drug to stop it. Our bodies have amazing built-in healing capabilities, if only we'd let them do their work. Taking a medication to stifle a symptom does just that… suppresses the symptom, perhaps. The body wasn’t allowed to heal whatever was causing the problem in the first place. So the symptom will likely come back and perhaps be worse, when more drugs will be taken and added to the toxic load from the first drug, piling one poisonous drug and suppressed symptom on top of another, building a huge toxic waste dump in the body. Doesn’t this sound like a way to initiate a true and possibly serious disease? Okay, enough of my opinions. For now, anyway. I just know that I feel vibrantly well eating a healthy raw foods diet. I plan to continue allowing my body to gently heal itself this way. To read about day 13 of the raw food challenge,
