Love and Health
Go Hand in Hand

Children Holding Hands

Love and health are intertwined in the grand scheme of things. I awoke this morning in a philosophical state of mind… feeling worried and stressed about various things, like the economic crisis in the world and my own personal but much less significant crises.

When I can’t seem to break the hold that unpleasant thoughts have on me, I turn to journaling. It gets the bad thoughts out of my mind and sometimes produces unexpected and enlightening results. That’s what happened this morning.

First of all, the obvious connection between love and health is that when you’re in love you feel healthy and happy. There are chemical substances, such as endorphins and hormones, produced in our bodies when we’re in love that contribute to a sense a well-being, security and happiness.

Love Yourself

Real love exhibits concern and care… for others as well as ourselves. If we really and truly care for ourselves, we would take good care of these bodies that are taking us through life.

This minor revelation helped me change my negative thoughts about myself as I was writing. I realized that I usually do love myself enough to eat healthy foods which contribute to my being exceptionally healthy most of the time. Heart and Hands
It also occurred to me, however, that many people do not treat themselves or others with love and concern. Just think, if everyone did that, what a beautiful, peaceful, healthy, prosperous-for-everyone world this would be.

There are some very dear people in my life who are suffering serious illnesses because of their inability to see the connection between love (of themselves) and health. They seem to believe that feeding their bodies devitalized, toxin-laden, fatty, sugary substances consistently is a way to be loving toward themselves. Or, they are just in denial of any connection between food and health.

I want to hug them, tell them how much I love them, and how I know they would be healthier if they ate nutritious foods. But my experience has been that this alienates people. So, I continue to love them just the way they are and pray for their healing.
