Adopt a Low Fat Eating Plan For Optimum Health
Low fat eating is simple dietary change that everyone can make and that will
prevent
and even reverse many of the diseases that Americans suffer from.Beware, though… processed foods that call themselves low fat aren’t necessarily healthy. They are often high in sugar and
chemicals
which are bad for your health. So, it’s important to choose whole foods over processed foods.
Health ImprovementThe McDougall Program is a low fat eating dietary plan based on common starches such as oatmeal, rice, corn, whole-grain breads, sweet and white potatoes, and squashes. Fresh and frozen vegetables and fruits are added. It’s a plant-based diet with
no animal products
. In The New McDougall Cookbook: 300 Delicious Ultra-Low-Fat Recipes it states that even low-fat
dairy products
will clog the sinuses, aggravate asthma, and provoke the painful
inflammation
of rheumatoid arthritis. (And more.)
The authors, John A. McDougall and Mary McDougall, state that starches have been the staple foods of populations around the world, populations that are trim and suffer from few of the diseases that Americans do. Think of the slim Japanese…while they’re still in Japan. If they move to the United States and adopt American eating habits, they are subject to the same happiness- and health-robbing diseases. Even in underdeveloped countries like those in Central Africa, the people are essentially free of heart disease and various cancers. If you’re overweight, removing fats and oils from the diet leads to easy and permanent weight loss. Also, many diseases will be resolved by a low fat eating diet and whole plant foods, such as the reversal of atherosclerosis, the elimination of angina, the correction of hormonal imbalances, recovery from adult-onset diabetes and inflammatory arthritis,
prevention
of attacks of multiple sclerosis and gallbladder inflammation and the resolution of oily skin and acne. The Low-Fat RAVE Diet
Mike Anderson in The RAVE Diet & Lifestyle states that radically increasing the consumption of whole plant foods is the simplest, most cost-effective way to vastly improve health and prevent major diseases.Eating high amounts of any kinds of fats—animal or vegetable—decreases the amount of oxygen delivery to the cells of the body. Doctors can actually see blood sludging in the whites of the eyes following a high-fat meal. A blood sample taken a few hours after a man ate a cheeseburger and shake showed that half the blood was fat! Most Americans eat more than 40% of their calories from fat, whereas the amount needed is tiny, about 3-4%. You have to make a BIG change to reverse and prevent diet-related diseases. Just eating more fruits and vegetables won’t do it. - Heart disease can only be reversed on a true low-fat diet (10% of total calories as fat).
- Heart attacks do not occur in people with total cholesterol of less than 150.
- The higher the dietary fat, the weaker the immune system. A weak immune system is the biggest cause of cancer. The only foods that contain immune-strengthening and
cancer-fighting nutrients
are plant foods.
Dr. Douglas N. Graham also recommends a low-fat diet, but one that is probably more extreme than most diets because it is also all raw.In 80/10/10 Diet: Balancing Your Health, Your Weight & Your Life, One Luscious Bite at a Time Dr. Graham points out that John McDougall MD, Michael Klaper MD, William Harris MD, Ruth Heidrich PhD, Michael Greger MD, and Neal Barnard MD, among others, all agree that about 10% of total calories coming from a plant-based diet is moderate and more than adequate... and that health goes downhill significantly when fat consumption goes to about the mid-teens. Most Americans eat four times that amount of fat. It is only industry-influenced government agencies that recommend 20-30% fat intake. Even
vegetarians, vegans
and raw fooders eat too much fat, because of high intakes of oils, nuts, soy milk, avocados, coconut, and chocolate. Dr. Graham says that cooked or raw, too much fat is too much fat.
If you want to improve your health, to reverse and prevent such diseases as hypertension, aneurysm, atherosclerosis, embolism, myocardial infarction, cerebral infarction, senility, cancer, and diabetes, it makes sense to switch to a plant-based, low-fat diet if you're not already on one.
