Healthy Carrot-Banana Smoothie

BlendTec Blender October 14

It's fall in the mountains of Western North Carolina, but it feels like summer during the daytime with temperatures hovering around 80 degrees Fahrenheit. I wanted something cool and sweet for lunch today so I made a smoothie that turned out tasting somewhat like fall. There was something about the combination of ingredients and the color that made this drink taste like pumpkin and Thanksgiving. If I'd added some cinnamon, it would have enhanced that taste sensation. Try it and see what you think.

Blend the following in a powerful blender, or chop the carrot and prunes and blend for a longish time to get a smooth and creamy drink.

Carrot-Banana Smoothie

Enjoy!

Natural Health News: Deceptive Diet Research Study

Well, there was another one of those reports on the TV news the other night about diets… in this case, it had to do with which diet led to the most weight loss.

The viewer was led to believe that the low carb/high fat/ high protein diet was the way to go, supposedly surpassing the American Heart Association’s “low fat” (30%) diet and the Mediterranean diet.

Upon hearing of this study, I immediately wondered who funded it. Those newscasters never report that to their viewers. The full study can be found here: http://content.nejm.org/cgi/reprint/359/3/229.pdf.

Near the end of the study, you can see that it was funded by:

The Dr. Robert C. and Veronica Atkins Research Foundation

This is obviously something that is meant to deceive the public. For those who do believe it and follow their program, they shouldn’t be surprised if the future is filled with doctor bills, hospitalizations and illness—stroke, cancer, kidney problems, and heart disease.

The way to healthy weight loss is by following a whole food, plant-based diet… delicious and healing vegetables and fruits, grains, beans, nuts and seeds.

Natural Health News: Dr. John McDougall's Posthumous Interview with Tim Russert

In his most recent newsletter, Dr. John McDougall, author of The_McDougall_Program, published a fascinating "posthumous interview" with Tim Russert, the former host of Meet the Press.

Tim Russert died last month of a massive heart attack at age 58. The interview is easy to read, respectful, and educates people about what happened to cause his early death. It also lets people know how this type of heart disease can be reversed. Many people think if they are exercising a lot, that will protect them, but it's just not true. The best protection is through a healthy, plant-based diet.

You can read the entire interview by clicking here (a new window will open). It's well worth your time.

Natural Health News: More Americans Have Diabetes

NBC News reported last night that diabetes is on the rise. About 1 in 4 Americans have diabetes or are prediabetic (at risk for developing it)!

T. Colin Campbell, PhD, author of The China Study, writes that modern drugs and surgery offer no cure for diabetics but that there is hope. “The food we eat has enormous influence over this disease. The right diet not only prevents but also treats disease.”

Dr. Campbell is a respected scientist. Let the research presented in this book speak for itself. It can change your life.

Check out The Rave Diet & Lifestyle. It's a natural-foods diet with "meals that heal."

Natural Health News: Cancer Reversal with Low-Fat Diet

Yesterday ABC News again had a thought-provoking health report. Robin Roberts interviewed Dean Ornish, MD, about his study which found that a low-fat diet can reverse cancer. His program involves foods that taste good--that make you feel good and look good-- as well as exercise and stress management, such as yoga.

The man who was part of the news report had prostate cancer. He'd followed Dr. Ornish's program and his cancer was now in remission.

Many people believe that there's nothing they can do about cancer because it's a genetic thing. However, Dr. Ornish said, "When you change your lifestyle it changes how your genes are expressed." He said that hundreds of genes were changed for the better in people who adopted his program. That's great news that should give everyone hope!

Natural Health News: Preventing Heart Attacks

Following the untimely death of Tim Russert from a heart attack the other day, ABC News did a report on lowering your risk for having a heart attack. The so-called experts discussed exercise, drugs (of course) and quitting smoking.

There was no mention of changing your diet, which I found very disturbing.

Later on, I received my weekly Hallelujah Health Tip by email, and in it Rev. George Malkmus also reported on the death and how you can prevent heart attack.

He said that if a person stopped eating all animal-source foods, they could reduce their risk of ever experiencing a heart attack by 96%.

Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn (M.D.) advocates an aggressive plant-based nutrition program to stop and reverse heart disease and avoid all surgery. His website is http://www.heartattackproof.com.

These two gentlemen are speaking truth that everyone should be made aware of. Many lives could be saved!
