Healthy Eating Can Lead to
The Prevention of Illness

The prevention of illness is one of the best ways to stay motivated to consistently eat healthy foods.

John Robbins in May All Be Fed, quotes this personal conversation he had with Dr. Dean Ornish who stated:

“It’s easier to prevent illness than to reverse it. The real point is that these simple changes increase the joy of living. You don’t have to be sick to notice the improvements when you change your diet and lifestyle. People lose weight, they feel lighter, happier, freer, more full of joy. These simple changes can be very powerful.”

I recently suggested a simple dietary change (consisting of more raw foods , juices and a plant-based diet) to a relative who is suffering from malignant melanoma. He wasn’t interested and replied that if something like that worked, the doctors would tell people about it.

That seems to be a common belief. A misplaced faith in the medical industry.

I believe that many physicians entered the profession because they wanted to help people, but their education is lacking in the areas of nutrition and wellness. They are more concerned with illness care than illness prevention and health enhancement. And they are trained to believe that drugs and surgery are the only valid treatments.

Enlightened Experts

However, not all scientists are on the wrong track. There are physicians and researchers who have discovered the keys to preventing illness. But they are still in the minority. T. Colin Campbell, PhD, is quoted in May All Be Fed:

“Why must we be reticent about recommending a diet which we know is safe and healthy? We, as scientists, can no longer take the attitude that the public cannot benefit from information they are not ready for. We must have the integrity to tell them the truth and let them decide what to do with it. We cannot force them to follow the guidelines we recommend, but we can give them these guidelines and let them decide….We must tell them that a diet of roots, stems, seeds, flowers, fruits, and leaves is the healthiest diet, and the only diet we can promote, endorse, and recommend.

Five Fruits

In The Hallelujah Diet , Rev. George Malkmus writes,

“After all these years of research and experience, my conclusion is that we do not have to be sick! Disease and sickness are almost always self-inflicted! Almost every physical problem (other than accidents) is caused by improper diet and lifestyle.”

He goes on to talk about the other lifestyle elements that are necessary for a vibrantly healthy life: elimination of toxins, clean water, clean air, sunlight, exercise, emotional balance, and rest.

When you start eating properly, you’ll be amazed at how good you’ll feel, and in a relatively short time. The cleaner your body becomes, the healthier and more alive and happy you’ll feel. You won’t need a scientist to tell you that you’re on the path to disease prevention, because you’ll experience it for yourself.
