Are you looking for Rave Diet recipes?

Do you know what this program is all about?

The Rave Diet & Lifestyle banner

Here is a quote by Mike Anderson, the author of The RAVE Diet & Lifestyle:

The RAVE Diet & Lifestyle is a long-term health regimen designed not only to lose weight, but also to enhance your health and energy level and to prevent (and even reverse) the common diseases that are ravaging Americans today.

Wow, what a wonderful, hope-filled statement!

At a simplified level (and it IS a simple program), here is what RAVE stands for:

No R efined foods
No A animal or foods
No V egetable oils
No E exceptions (& E xercise)

The book goes into a lot more detail and is filled with tips and recipes, like the following, a plant-based sloppy Joes recipe. Every recipe I’ve tried from the book has been delicious and easy. Here’s one for you to try:

Vegan Sloppy Joes

  • 1 16-ounce can tomato sauce*
  • 1-1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1-1/2 cups dry texturized vegetable protein (TVP)**
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped onions
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable broth
  • 2 medium bell peppers, coarsely chopped (I used one large bell pepper)
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder (more to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon dried mustard

Instructions: Heat the broth and sauté the onions and pepper for five minutes. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for 20 minutes. Serve over hamburger rolls.

My modifications:

*I didn’t have a 16-ounce can of tomato sauce, so I improvised by using an 8-ounce can of tomato sauce, about 1/4 cup of tomato paste, and about 1/2 cup of water.

**I never buy TVP, so I didn’t have any on hand. What I did have was a 16-ounce container of tofu in my freezer. I thawed that out and crumbled it up. Because I didn’t need all of the water called for (TVP requires reconstituting), I just used the small amount mentioned above (about 1/2 cup). You can easily add water to reach the consistency you prefer.

The recipe didn’t call for it, but I added a couple of large spoonfuls of a vegan, nonfat barbecue sauce. I think it gave it a nice little kick.

I served this over a hearty whole-grain bread, with some good dill pickles sliced on the side, and it was really yummy.

Don’t forget to check out the book for many more healthy dish suggestions.

Many of the Rave Diet recipes are like this: quick and easy enough to prepare for your healthy family after work. Even if you don’t have all of the ingredients, as you can see, you can often improvise and still come up with a deliciously healthy vegetarian recipe.
